wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Le jeudi 11 novembre 1944, la toute nouvellement cr\u00e9\u00e9e 15th Air Force am\u00e9ricaine, dont le quartier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral \u00e9tait alors bas\u00e9 en Tunisie, d\u00e9p\u00eachait pour la premi\u00e8re fois ses quadrimoteurs sur la France.<br>Ainsi, 32 B-24 Liberator appartenant au 98th Bomber-Group, allaient bombarder l&#8217;usine de roulements \u00e0 billes d&#8217;Annecy, la S.R.O., et au retour, le viaduc d&#8217;Anth\u00e9or, Var, France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si Annecy fut s\u00e9v\u00e8rement touch\u00e9e par ce raid, engendrant malheureusement plusieurs d\u00e9c\u00e8s au sein de la population civile, un quadrimoteur lors de la route aller, alors que la formation survolait les Alpes italiennes, dut faire demi tour pour causes de probl\u00e8mes techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il s&#8217;agissait du B-24 D serial 42-40105 surnomm\u00e9 &#8220;Yankee Doddle Dandy&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isol\u00e9, cet appareil sera la proie de 7 Messerschmitt 109 appartenant au Jagdgruppe (JG) 77, dont les bases \u00e9taient diss\u00e9min\u00e9es autour de Cuneo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En flammes, avec 3 hommes tu\u00e9s \u00e0 bord, le quadrimoteur s&#8217;\u00e9crasera pr\u00e8s du sommet du mont Rucustun, dans la vall\u00e9e des Termes de Valdieri, \u00e0 environ 5 km au Sud\/Ouest de Cuneo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parmi les 7 membres d&#8217;\u00e9quipage restant qui \u00e9vacu\u00e8rent le B-24 un homme sera tu\u00e9 alors qu&#8217;il descendait, sangl\u00e9 \u00e0 son parachute ouvert, tandis qu&#8217;un autre bless\u00e9 lors de sa r\u00e9ception au sol sera fait prisonnier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les 5 aviateurs restant, incluant le pilote, r\u00e9ussiront \u00e0 \u00e9chapper aux mains de l&#8217;occupant car r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s par les partisans italiens sous les ordres d&#8217;Aldo Quaranta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour rappeler ce fait de guerre, \u00e9tait inaugur\u00e9 par A\u00e9ro-Re.L.I.C et la municipalit\u00e9 de Validieri\/Andonno, 50 ans plus tard, le 11 novembre 1993, au pied du mont Rucustun, dans le petit village d&#8217;Andonno, un monument \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire des quatre jeunes aviateurs tu\u00e9s durant l&#8217;attaque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6 ann\u00e9es plus tard, le 11 novembre 1999, Ron et Gary Potter, les fils du navigateur de l&#8217;appareil (le sous-lieutenant Ralph Potter), venaient pour la premi\u00e8re fois de leur vie se recueillir au pied du monument, en pr\u00e9sence des \u00e9lus locaux et d&#8217;une nombreuse foule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ces deux hommes, \u00e9mus, repartiront chez eux, en emportant dans leurs bagages casseroles et couverts en aluminium, fabriqu\u00e9s 55 ans auparavant, avec les vestiges de l&#8217;avion de leur
