Durant les op\u00e9rations a\u00e9riennes alli\u00e9es men\u00e9es pour d\u00e9truire les moyens de communication de l&#8217;occupant dans le sud de la France, 2 groupes de B-24 Liberator du 55th Bomber-Wing de la 15th Air Force, les 464th et 465th Bomber-Group, avaient our mission la mise hors service du noeud ferroviaire de Givors, ville situ\u00e9e \u00e0 une vingtaine de km au Sud de Lyon dans la vall\u00e9e du Rh\u00f4ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4 quadrimoteurs appartenant 464th BG seront tr\u00e8s s\u00e9rieusement endommag\u00e9s dont 3 ne rentreront pas \u00e0 leur base temporaire de Gioia del Colle, dans les Pouilles italiennes. Les groupes de bombardiers am\u00e9ricains avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 durement malmen\u00e9s sur leur route de retour, tant par la Flak, que la Luftwaffe, dont les Messerchmitt 109 et Focke Wulf 190 do nt les bases \u00e9taient localis\u00e9es a Istres, Salon-de-Provence et les Channoines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 3\u00e8me appareil touch\u00e9 portant le serial 41-29382, et dont les r\u00e9servoirs principaux avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 atteints, s&#8217;\u00e9crasa dans le massif de l&#8217;Est\u00e9rel \u00e0 moins de 2 km au Sud du Messeschmitt 109 abattu quelques secondes auparavant !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paradoxalement, cet avion avait \u00e9t\u00e9 surnomm\u00e9 par son \u00e9quipage : &#8220;Lucky Lady&#8221;&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seules 4 formes avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 vues s&#8217;\u00e9jecter de l&#8217;\u00e9pave volante, tranform\u00e9e en boule de feu, par plusieurs t\u00e9moins, dont les habitants de la ferme du Grenouillet, \u00e0 Agay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sur les quatre formes appercues s&#8217;\u00e9jecter du B-24, seul le pilote, le sous-lieutenant William O. Trotter, atterrit vivant pr\u00e8s du viaduc d&#8217;Anth\u00e9or.
