Seconde mission de bombardement effectu\u00e9e par le groupe de bombardiers moyens fran\u00e7ais B-26 Marauder II\/52 Franche Comt\u00e9 au d\u00e9part de Villacidro, en Sardaigne.<br>Objectif : la France, avec l&#8217;attaque du pont ferroviaire Charles-Albert (ou de Gillette), localis\u00e9 \u00e0 une dizaine de km au nord de l&#8217;embouchure du fleuve Var (ouest de Nice).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le flight est compos\u00e9 de 5 Marauder du Franche-Comt\u00e9 (int\u00e9gr\u00e9 au sein d&#8217;une formation de plusieurs autres bimoteurs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peu avant l&#8217;arriv\u00e9e sur l&#8217;objectif, les B-26 fran\u00e7ais ne peuvent \u00e9viter une importante masse nuageuse qui leur barre la route, en y \u00e9tant litt\u00e9ralement happ\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quelques minutes plus tard, et de nouveau dans le ciel bleu, il appara\u00eet que l&#8217;objectif est d\u00e9pass\u00e9, et c&#8217;est sans avoir largu\u00e9 les 4 bombes de 500 kg qu&#8217;emportait chaque avion, que le Franche-Comt\u00e9 rentre \u00e0 sa base. Mais un probl\u00e8me important est apparu : un avion est port\u00e9 manquant!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C&#8217;\u00e9tait le B-26 C 45-MO, serial 42-107726.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&#8217;enqu\u00eate men\u00e9e sur les causes de la disparition de cet avion fit savoir que durant la travers\u00e9e de l&#8217;imposante masse nuageuse, le groupe dut r\u00e9duire sa vitesse de vol, amenant \u00e0 ce que l&#8217;avion du capitaine Cartier, qui se trouvait en derni\u00e8re position, fut malheureusement victime d&#8217;un d\u00e9crochage\u2026 ne laissant aucune chance \u00e0 son jeune \u00e9quipage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les restes du B-26 et de ses hommes seront retrouv\u00e9s \u00e0 2300 m\u00e8tres d&#8217;altitude, reposant dans un \u00e9boulis rocheux par un berger local, au mois d&#8217;octobre 1944, c\u00f4t\u00e9 nord de la combe de Scluos localis\u00e9e entre les cols Merci\u00e8re et de Sal\u00e9ze (Parc national du Mercantour), non loin de la fronti\u00e8re italienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C&#8217;est \u00e0 l&#8217;initiative d&#8217;A\u00e9ro-Re.L.I.C., qu&#8217;\u00e9tait scell\u00e9e non loin du point de chute, le 31 juillet 1994, avec les autorisations de la direction du parc national du Mercantour, une plaque \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire de cet \u00e9quipage fran\u00e7ais tomb\u00e9 au champ d&#8217;honneur pour la France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d&#8217;inauguration charg\u00e9e d&#8217;\u00e9motion, eut lieu en pr\u00e9sence d&#8217;une vingtaine d&#8217;anciens du Franche-Comt\u00e9 (AAB-26 Marauder) ayant express\u00e9ment fait le d\u00e9placement pour un dernier adieu \u00e0 leurs camarades bien trop t\u00f4t disparus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"
