Au pr\u00e9alable, sa mission consiste \u00e0 embarquer 15 officiers et sous-officiers am\u00e9ricains ainsi que 3 civils (2 ing\u00e9nieurs et un haut responsable de l\u2019avionneur Bell Aircraft corp) sur l\u2019a\u00e9roport de Rome-Ciampino en Italie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Rome-Ciampino, le Dakota devra traverser la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e en direction de la Corse, puis se diriger vers Marseille, avec la remont\u00e9e de la vall\u00e9e du Rh\u00f4ne pour atteindre l\u2019Allemagne. Ce sont les mauvaises conditions climatiques du moment sur les Alpes, qui avaient impos\u00e9es ce plus long trajet pour rallier Bitburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 11 heures 27, l\u2019ordre de d\u00e9coller est donn\u00e9 de Rome-Ciampino. A 12 heures 42, le Dakota est \u00e0 la verticale de Bastia, en Corse, et les \u00e9changes radio entre le contr\u00f4le de Rome sont bons. D\u2019ailleurs, Rome confirme \u00e0 l\u2019appareil de passer et rester en contact avec le secteur de contr\u00f4le de Marseille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais c\u00f4t\u00e9 m\u00e9t\u00e9orologie, la d\u00e9gradation a \u00e9t\u00e9 plus rapide que pr\u00e9vue. D\u2019importantes et \u00e9paisses couches nuageuses barrent maintenant la route au bimoteur am\u00e9ricain. La Corse est aussi touch\u00e9e par ces effets atmosph\u00e9riques, tout comme le sud de la France et le secteur alpin. Un vent glacial vient aussi perturber le vol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A partir de l\u00e0, l\u2019\u00e9quipage du C-47 va se retrouver isol\u00e9 dans les nuages, sans point de rep\u00e8re, et comble de malchance, va perdre, malgr\u00e9 de fr\u00e9quents essais (r\u00e9ciproques avec les contr\u00f4les terrestres) tout contact radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naviguant aux instruments, sans visibilit\u00e9, le C-47 va remonter une grande vall\u00e9e en direction du nord (est-ce que cette \u00ab grande vall\u00e9e \u00bb a pu \u00eatre prise par erreur pour la vall\u00e9e du Rh\u00f4ne) ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puis, plus aucun signal ne sera donn\u00e9 par l\u2019avion.
