Sur d\u2019autres mod\u00e8les, une mitrailleuse de capot 30.06 (localis\u00e9e c\u00f4t\u00e9 droit) \u00e9tait mont\u00e9e, ce qui est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment le cas pour le SNJ de la baie de Cannes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019histoire Le lundi 8 mars 1954, aux alentours de 13 heures, d\u00e9colle de l&#8217;a\u00e9rodrome de Saint-Cassien-Mandelieu, le SNJ Bu 51921, qui sera suivi, plusieurs minutes plus tard, par le 51879.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les appareils, faisant office d\u2019avions de liaison, rejoignent leur porte-avions, l\u2019USS Midway, ancr\u00e9 en baie de Cannes, avec de nombreux autres navires de la 6\u00e8me flotte US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le SNJ \u00ab 921 \u00bb, pilot\u00e9 par l\u2019enseigne de vaisseau Portner, arrive par l\u2019Ouest de la baie de Cannes et doit effectuer une boucle pour venir se pr\u00e9senter en finale d&#8217;appontage par l\u2019Est.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le temps est humide et froid, et c\u2019est \u00e0 peine apr\u00e8s avoir termin\u00e9 sa boucle que le moteur \u00e9met des signes de pertes de puissance saccad\u00e9es, cafouillant \u00e0 plusieurs reprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le radio, Joe Sinking, en place arri\u00e8re, avertit imm\u00e9diatement le contr\u00f4le du porte-avion que leur avion \u00e0 des soucis de moteur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le message est \u00e0 peine transmit qu\u2019imm\u00e9diatement l\u2019h\u00e9lice bipale cale, entra\u00eenant hommes et machine dans une descente rapide vers la mer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le pilote \u00e9jecte instantan\u00e9ment la verri\u00e8re, et tout en continuant \u00e0 ma\u00eetriser la surprenante et maintenant d\u00e9licate man\u0153uvre d\u2019amerrissage d\u2019urgence, cabre au maximum le monomoteur tandis que d\u00e9j\u00e0, un h\u00e9licopt\u00e8re d\u00e9colle du Midway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019empennage se d\u00e9solidarise du fuselage sous la force hydraulique, et dans une impressionnante gerbe d\u2019\u00e9cume, alors que l\u2019USS Midway ne se trouve qu\u2019\u00e0 seulement 300 m\u00e8tres de l\u00e0, le \u00ab SNJ 921 \u00bb va se stabiliser quelques minutes avant de sombrer, laissant le temps aux deux hommes d\u2019\u00e9quipage de sauter \u00e0 l\u2019eau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le bain forc\u00e9 n\u2019aura pas dur\u00e9 5 minutes, les deux hommes sont imm\u00e9diatement hiss\u00e9s \u00e0 bord de l\u2019h\u00e9licopt\u00e8re qui les d\u00e9posera sains et saufs sur le pont du porte-avions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les causes de la panne du moteur seront attribu\u00e9es \u00e0 un givrage du carburateur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>51 ann\u00e9es vont alors passer, avant que l\u2019histoire de cet appareil resurgisse des fonds marins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 12 mai 2005, Anne et Jean-Pierre Joncheray naviguent en baie de Cannes \u00e0 la recherche de nouveaux sites de plong\u00e9es lorsqu\u2019un \u00e9cho particulier venu s\u2019afficher sur l\u2019\u00e9cran du sondeur de bord attire leur attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce sera Anne qui descendra la premi\u00e8re, et d\u00e9couvrira intacte, pos\u00e9e bien \u00e0 plat sur un lit de posidonies, par 41 m\u00e8tres de profondeur, l\u2019\u00e9pave vierge du SNJ Bu 51921.<br>Si la verri\u00e8re sera aussi retrouv\u00e9e par la suite un peu en arri\u00e8re de l\u2019\u00e9pave, l\u2019empennage, \u00e0 ce jour, n\u2019a pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remerciements
